THE FULL ROTATION
• For the first time since the 2017 campaign commenced, the Stephen F. Austin volleyball team sits in first place in the Southland Conference standings with only five league matches remaining in the regular season. Now the Ladyjacks' mission is to remain there and the first challenge the newly-minuted league leaders face comes Saturday afternoon in Hammond, La., where SFA is set to mix it up with Southeastern Louisiana at 1:00 p.m. inside the University Center.
• Even though SFA sits atop the 13-team Southland Conference, there are still any number of things that could happen to shake up the standings and determine the Southland Conference regular season champion. Only two games separate the teams in first through fifth place and Saturday SFA begins one of its toughest stretch of the season by playing four matches in eight days.
• Since suffering a 3-0 loss at the hands of Southland Conference adversary Houston Baptist on the penultimate day of September, SFA has responded by winning eight matches in a row to vault to the top of the Southland standings. That eight-match winning streak by the Ladyjacks is their second-longest of the season and all eight of the wins have come in the month of October, making SFA one of 25 NCAA Division I volleyball teams without a loss in the month. Of that group of 25 institutions, five are from the state of Texas and they include North Texas, Rice, SFA, Texas and Texas State.
• With over 20 wins in hand - 22 to be exact - SFA is one of just two Southland Conference programs and one of only 17 NCAA Division I volleyball teams with 20 or more wins under its belt in 2017. SFA is three victories shy of producing its first season of 25 or more wins in a decade.
• A big part of SFA's current run of success has been the play of junior outside hitter Haley Coleman. A product of Rockwall, Texas, Coleman broke into the top ten players in the Southland Conference in terms of kills per set and points per set by tying a career-high with 17 terminations and establishing a new career best with four service aces in Thursday night's 3-1 triumph at New Orleans. Coleman did not hit above .130 during her first two seasons as a collegian but has taken a major step forward as a junior by attacking at a clip of .283. Currently Coleman is tied for ninth among all Southland Conference players with a kills per set average of 2.98 and her points per set average of 3.44 ranks ninth among all league players. She has generated 10 or more kills and hit .300 or better in each of her last four matches while producing a pair of double-doubles in that span.
• The Ladyjacks own the top hitting percentage in the Southland Conference and their mark of .266 ranks 26th nationally. In Southland Conference matches, SFA is hitting at a league-leading clip of .305 which makes the Ladyjacks one of just 13 NCAA Division I teams from around the nation that has posted a team attack percentage of .300 or better in conference play.
LAST TIME OUT
• It took four sets - three of which were decided by four or fewer points - but the Ladyjacks outlasted an upset-minded New Orleans squad inside the Human Performance Center on Thursday evening in the Big Easy.
• Haley Coleman led the way with a massive 21-point performance - the highest point total by any SFA player in 2017. The junior tied a career-best with 17 kills and nine of those terminations came in the deciding fourth frame. Additionally, Coleman delivered a career-best four service aces to keep the Privateers on their heels.
• Almost perfect through a first set that saw the Ladyjacks hit a staggering .800 with 20 kills, junior Peyton Redmond accumulated eight of her career-best 16 kills on only nine swings during the opening frame. Redmond added 11 digs as well to put the wraps on her first double-double effort of the 2017 campaign.
• The third piece of SFA's offensive assault was sophomore Danae Daron who produced 12 kills on the strength of a team-best attack percentage of .423. The native of Crosby, Texas, also racked up five blocks - a career-best two of which were of the solo vaiety.
• In the back row, senior libero Lexus Cain scooped up a match-best 16 digs which brought her career total to 1,493. That total is the seventh-most in a career in the history of the program and puts her only seven digs away from the 1,500 mark for her career. Should Cain reach that mark, she would become only the seventh player in program history to record 1,500 or more digs in a career.
• After not playing in the previous five matches, sophomore Shayla Eagleton returned to the floor for two of the four sets and generated three block assists. Two of those came in the late stages of the fourth and final frame that helped push SFA over the hump.
• Sophomore setter Ann Hollas distributed 45 assists during the win - one shy of tying her season high.
SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA | ROSTER | SCHEDULE | STATISTICS
