Coach Dickson Welcomes New Signees to SFA

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Coach Nicole Dickson brings a lot of fresh faces to the SFA diamond. Her signing class this year has several transfers from Dickson’s previous head coach position at Tyler Junior College, where she led the apaches to an outstanding two conference championships and two NJCCA Division I National Tournament appearances. Coach Dickson and her staff of assistant coaches Audrey Farfan and Keith Stein have worked hard recruiting an all-star line up for the 2017 season.
Amber Landry- Catcher – Junior transfer from Tyler Junior College
Landry comes with many accolades from her previous years of play. She was named All-Conference Region XIV East First Team Catcher and All-Region XIV First Team Catcher. She was chosen for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American First team. She made the NJCAA All-American Third Team and received the NFCA Diamond Catcher of the Year in 2016. Landry had an outstanding season last spring where she hit 14 homeruns off of 83 hits, and collected 81 RBIs.
Coach Dickson: “Landry is a hard-worker and defensively will be a great addition to our catching staff this season. She was one of the best in the country last season at Tyler; I am excited to see her growth at this level and contribution to our team at SFA. She also adds power offensively to our lineup. “
Jordan Llinas- Pitcher- Freshman from Cypress Woods HS
Llinas had a rock solid finish to her high school career as she was named for First Team All-District for the 2014, 2015, and 2016 seasons. She also received the Defensive MVP award in both 2015 and 2016. After her senior year, she closed with a 1.3 ERA, 177.2 IP, 303 Ks, and opponent BA of .178.
Coach Dickson: “Llinas has the ability to be one of the top pitchers in the Southland as a freshman . We are excited to add her to our pitching staff. Jordan is a strike-out type pitcher. She has both velocity and movement with a variety of pitches.”
Halie Vance – Pitcher – Junior transfer from Texas Tech/Tyler Junior College
While at Tyler Junior College, Vance was chosen for the First Team All-Region and First Team All-Conference. She closed out her season there with a 25-8 record with a 1.25 ERA and over 200Ks. She then took her pitching to Texas Tech, signing with four other pitchers for the 2015 season. Before the season could get underway, Vance decided to take time to raise her daughter, Tareyn.
Coach Dickson: “We are looking forward to adding Halie to our pitching staff. She is mature and will add depth and experience in the circle. “
Tanna Huie – Outfielder – Sophomore Transfer from Tyler Junior College
Huie also comes with many accolades from her previous years at Tyler Junior College. She was chosen for the All-Conference Region XIV East Frist Team Outfield and All-Region XIV First Team Outfield. Huie was selected as the Region XIV player of the Year in 2016. From NJCCA she was awarded the NJCCA All-American First Team, NLCCA/Marucci Elite Hitter District L, and the National Tournament All-Tournament Team. She was nationally recognized for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American First Team and the National Tournament All-Tournament Team 2016. Last Spring, Huie finished with nine homeruns off of 95 hits, and brought in 63 RBIs.
Coach Dickson: “Huie is a triple threat from the left side. She runs well and can also hit for power. Offensively she will add both depth and power to our lineup. She is a competitive kid who was one of the top offensive players in the nation for D1 NJCAA as a freshman last season hitting .528 avg.”
Karli Herron – Utility – Sophomore Transfer from Tyler Junior College
Herron comes to Stephen F. Austin as a great all-around player from Tyler Junior College. She was chosen for the All-Conference Region XIV East First Team Outfield and All-Region XIV Second Team Outfield from her 2016 season. Herron had 169 at bats last spring, collected 43 runs, and slammed 13 homeruns.
Coach Dickson: “Herron is a highly offensive kid who runs and throws well. She is competitive and hard-working and a very versatile athlete, playing both IF an OF positions. She will hit for both power and average and we anticipate more growth and development from her as a sophomore this season.”
Lauren Becker – Infielder – Sophomore Transfer from Tyler Junior College
Becker is a hard hitter from Tyler Junior College, where she collected 38 RBIs out of 155 at bats. She also received All-Conference Region XIV East Second Team Infield recognition for her 2016 season from her 47 put-outs and 68 assists.
Coach Dickson: “Becker is a solid addition to the infield for our team. She is strong fundamentally and understands the game. She is a contact hitter and tough at the plate, she hit .361 as a freshman last season for the Apaches.”
