
SFA Splits Matches To Close Arkansas Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – The Stephen F. Austin women’s volleyball team split their final two matches of the Arkansas Invitational, dropping a 3-0 (20-25, 20-25, 19-25) decision to host Arkansas, before responding with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-23) triumph over Tennessee State on Saturday afternoon inside Barnhill Arena.
SFA (1-2) bounced back from a straight-set loss to the Razorbacks (2-0), imposing the same outcome on the Tigers (0-3) to close out the weekend and pick up its first win of the season.
Senior Paige Holland was named to the all-tournament team after all the matches were complete.
The Ladyjacks will now return to Nacogdoches for their home opener, welcoming North Texas to Shelton Gym on Monday night in a 6:30 p.m. tilt.
Arkansas 3, SFA 0 Box Score
SFA was limited to just a .011 attack percentage against ARK in its second loss of the season. The Ladyjack attack was led by senior Jill Ivy, who recorded seven kills, as junior Tori Bates followed with five.
Junior OJ Olson headlined the back line with 17 digs, while senior Janet Hill picked up seven assists.
SFA took an early lead on the Razorbacks, jumping out 11-5, before ARK made a charge. The Razorbacks scored six consecutive points to tie it 11-11, before accumulating a five point lead (20-15), eventually taking the opening set 25-20.
ARK then followed with another 25-20 win in the second set, before closing it out 25-19 in the third set to complete the sweep.
SFA 3, Tennessee State 0 Box Score
The Ladyjacks found their stride against TSU, sweeping the Tigers to close out the pit stop in Fayetteville.
Ivy again led SFA in kills, recording 11 on 26 swings, also adding 10 digs for her first double-double of the season as the Ladyjacks swung a .284 clip. With the 11 kills, Ivy went over the four-digit mark in her career, becoming the latest member of the 1,000-kill club. Olson joined Ivy in double-figure digs, racking up 10.
Setters Holland and Shannon Connell each reached the double-figure mark in assists, amassing 17 and 10, respectfully.
Freshman Lauren Taft led all blockers with five assisted denials, with juniors Keeley Kainer and Jacque Allen landing three block assists.
SFA jumped out to a five point lead in the first set, up 15-10, as the advantage remained the Ladyjacks’ the rest of the way in a 25-20 victory.
In the second set, SFA swung an impressive .385 clip to easily down TSU 25-12 and take a 2-0 lead into the break.
The Ladyjacks then closed out the third set with a 25-23 victory for their first win of the season.
