NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Riding a wave of momentum after this weekend’s sweep of conference foe Lamar, the Stephen F. Austin softball team heads to Texas Southern for its final nonconference game of the season on Wednesday. The Ladyjacks will face the Lady Tigers at 4 p.m. from Memorial Park in Houston.
SFA (21-24) swept Lamar over the weekend to climb up the Southland Conference standings from seventh place all the way to third. The Ladyjacks hope to keep their recent winning ways going against a Texas Southern team (27-16) that is hot as well, winning seven straight.
The Ladyjacks defeated Texas Southern earlier this season at home with a 4-0 victory. Senior Carlie Thomas threw a complete game that day and allowed only two hits while striking out 10 batters.
Texas Southern is currently leading the SWAC Western Division and is one game behind the overall lead with a 15-2 record in league play. The Lady Tigers are 3-3 against Southland Conference teams so far this season.
SFA will close the regular season this weekend at Sam Houston State. The Bearkats are currently in second place and 2.5 games ahead of SFA in the Southland standings.
