NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin never trailed against Incarnate Word, leading by as many as 23 as the Ladyjacks rolled to a 79-59 victory at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
With the win, SFA notched its seventh-straight win at home, improving to 12-9 overall and 6-3 in Southland Conference play. Incarnate Word fell to 8-12 and 2-6 in conference action.
Four players scored in double figures for the Ladyjacks, led by 17 points from Antionette Carter. Porsha Roberts, who was held scoreless in the first half, finished with 14 points and six rebounds for SFA with Taylor Ross adding 14 points and six assists. Daylyn Harris notched 11 points and led all players with seven rebounds on the afternoon.
Roberts played just four minutes in the first half after picking up two quick fouls, but her teammates picked up the slack with the Ladyjacks' top scorer on the bench. Carter scored 11 of her points in the opening frame on 5-of-7 shooting. Ross tallied nine points in the first half with some sharp shooting as well, 4-of-6.
For the second straight game SFA pounded the ball inside resulting in 40 points in the paint. Those inside shots allowed the Ladyjacks to shoot 54.4 percent, as the team surpassed 50 percent in both games this week.
The Ladyjacks will remain home for two contests next week as they take on Nicholls State and McNeese State. Both teams defended their home court on Saturday with victories. Nicholls State defeated conference leading Central Arkansas.
