NACOGDOCHES, Texas -A balanced offensive attack, aided by a strong start in the second half, helped Stephen F. Austin pull away from Abilene Christian as the Ladyjacks hand the Wildcats an 80-59 defeat at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA improves to 11-9 on the season and 5-3 in Southland Conference play, notching its sixth-straight home court victory. ACU falls to 12-9 on the year and 3-3 in conference action.
The Ladyjacks shot an impressive 59.3 percent from the floor for the game, including hitting 66.7 percent of their shots in the second half. SFA held Abilene Christian to just 39.7 percent from the floor and just 16.7 percent from three point range as the Wildcats went 4-of-24 from beyond the arc, including 0-for-10 in the second half.
Five Ladyjacks scored in double figures, led by 18 points and four rebounds from Daylyn Harris. Porsha Roberts finished with 12 points and six rebounds with Antoinette Carter contributing 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists off the bench.
Taylor Ross posted 11 points, six rebounds and five assists for SFA while Tierany Henderson added 10 points, six rebounds and six steals. SFA outscored ACU 42-29 in the second half after taking a 38-30 lead into halftime.
The victory snaps a three-game losing skid for the Ladyjacks and the 59.3 shooting percentage was the highest for the season.
Thanks to 14 steals by the Ladyjacks, also a season-high, SFA was able to score 26 points off turnovers. Many of those baskets came in transition resulting in 14 fast break points. The Ladyjacks also took advantage of their size against ACU with a strong effort inside and 52 points in the paint.
SFA remains at home this weekend as the Ladyjacks will host Southland Conference newcomer Incarnate Word at 4 p.m. Saturday.
