Ladyjacks Strike Late In 2OT To Beat UTEP

EL PASO, Texas - Chelsea Raymond scored the game-winning goal in the 107th minute of double overtime to help lead the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks to a dramatic 2-1 victory at UTEP Sunday afternoon.
Raymond's goal, her second of the season and 32nd of her career, came on a long pass played into space from junior forward Zuri Prince which allowed Raymond to use her speed and beat UTEP goalkeeper Sarah Dilling for the winner.
"What a great game for our players and staff to be a part of," SFA head coach Wally Crittenden said. "UTEP is an excellent team that competes very hard. They are big and physical and demand your very best the entire match. I am extremely proud of our team today. Going down a goal, on the road, while being challenged the way we were; all the excuses were there for them to take. They chose to ignore every external factor and invest in the only area that could affect the outcome...themselves. This is a great segway into our match on Friday against LSU. We will keep moving forward and drive to improve this week."
SFA (4-1-1) rallied from a 1-0 first half deficit to force overtime with the help of freshman Kelly Ann Craig's first career goal in the 71st minute on a bending shot off an assist from senior Brenda Salazar, her second of the season.
The Ladyjacks had just one shot in the first half compared to three for the Miners (3-2-1), which included the game's first goal from Azia Nicholson in the 44th minute. However, SFA was clearly the more aggressive team in the second half with nine shots, five of which were on goal.
Senior goalkeeper Lacey Lee entered the game at the start of the second half and played 62 minutes to record the victory, her third of the season. Lee and starting goalkeeper Morgan Glick made one save apiece.
Sunday's match marked the second time in the last four games that SFA has played in a double overtime match, also doing so on Aug. 30 at Houston (0-0 tie). It was also SFA's last road non-conference match of the regular season.
The Ladyjacks will now have four days off before returning home to Nacogdoches for a showdown against SEC for LSU on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.
