SFA hits the road Thursday before returning home Sunday to face LA Tech
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State Ladyjacks Soccer is back in action this week with their matchups at Arkansas State on Thursday, August 27, at 4:00 p.m. and returning home for a Sunday match against Louisiana Tech on August 30 at 6:00 p.m.

SPECIAL PROMOTION
This Sunday, Ladyjack Soccer fans can join us for Pups at the Pitch. Fans are encouraged to bring their dogs, as each fan will receive an SFA-branded doggy disposal bag upon entry while supplies last.
Paws4Nac, a local company that helps with the support of placement of shelter dogs, will be on-site before the game with dogs up for adoption and fostering, so fans can spend time with the dogs before the game. These same dogs will also be part of our halftime "Paw Parade" where we will showcase dogs with fun facts and information about them.
SCOUTING THE RED WOLVES
Arkansas State enters Thursday's match with a 0-2-1 record after playing Central Arkansas to a 2-2 draw on Sunday. Lucia Flores opened the scoring for the Red Wolves in the 83rd minute after UCA took the lead. The two sides then exchanged goals late, with UCA scoring in the 86th minute before Arkansas State responded with a goal from Maddy Tapley in the 88th minute to secure the 2-2 draw. Flores and Tapley each led Arkansas State with one goal apiece, alongside Kennedy Horn. The Red Wolves have scored three goals on the year, led by 33 shots and allowing five goals on the season.
SERIES HISTORY (ARKANSAS STATE)
The Ladyjacks lead the series with a 4-0-1 record, including two wins in Jonesboro. The first-ever draw came during last season's match when SFA and Arkansas State played to a 2-2 tie. The Jacks were able to find a quick 2-0 lead before the Red Wolves came back with goals in the 71st and 80th minutes to even the match before the final whistle. SFA makes its fourth appearance in Jonesboro against the Red Wolves, outscoring Arkansas State 5-3 in road matches.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs enter Thursday's matchup against Southland foe Houston Christian with a 0-2-1 record before heading to Nacogdoches on Sunday. Louisiana Tech has opened the season against several SLC opponents, hosting Nicholls, SLU and Lamar before facing HCU and SFA, with matchups against McNeese and NSU still to come.
In its most recent match against Lamar, LA Tech fell 1-0, dropping its first match against the Cardinals in the all-time series. Goalkeeper Mackenzie Lorowski recorded nine saves in the match as she has now reached the 20-save mark on the season.

The Ladyjacks and Bulldogs meet for the ninth time in the all-time series, with SFA holding a slight advantage at 4-3-1. Last season, SFA earned a 1-0 shutout victory over LA Tech in Ruston. Thursday's matchup marks the Bulldogs' fourth appearance in Nacogdoches, where SFA currently holds a perfect 3-0 record against LA Tech.
NATIONAL NUMBERS
SFA Soccer currently ranks tied for 16th nationally in assists per game and first in the Southland Conference with 3.33 assists per contest. The Ladyjacks also rank among the top 50 teams in the nation in points per game, averaging 8.00. SFA enters Thursday's match ranked among the top 65 scoring offenses in the country at 2.33, and fifth best in the SLC.
When asked about the team's leading numbers and the contributions of the newcomers to SFA's nationally ranked statistics, Head Coach Ashley Whittemore stated, "They are hungry, excited, and very confident going to goal and getting creative. When opportunities are created, they take the opportunity to put the ball in the back of the net."

Head Coach Ashley Whittemore previewed the week ahead, stating, "The message for the week is to be confident and play the game. If we are doing the right things in training, the winning is going to fall into place." Whittemore added, "It is up to the players to have the hunger to win, so I am excited to see what we are going to do this week."
NEW KIDS MAKE THEIR MARK
Newcomers to the SFA soccer team have made their mark through the first three matches of the season. Ten newcomers have recorded at least one point, including goals from Chappelle, Oberholtzer, Thurmond, and Smith.
LAST TIME AT THE CHOPPING BLOCK
SFA fell to Tulsa in a 4-1 final at the Chopping Block last time out. Savanna Oberholtzer notched her second goal of the season as she has now scored in back-to-back home matches.
UP NEXT
Following these games, SFA Soccer will travel to Monroe for a match against the Warhawks and then face Texas A&M, rekindling a matchup that ended in a draw last season.
