Ladyjacks Fall At No. 15 LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - Junior center Porsha Roberts recorded a game-high 21 points, but the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team fell 86-58 at No. 15 LSU in the first round of the Preseason WNIT and season opener for both teams Friday night inside the Maravich Center.
Roberts led all players with her 21 points, as SFA (0-1) placed two Ladyjacks in double-figures. Junior Brittney Matthew finished with 10 points, while senior Antionette Carter and junior Daylyn Harris finished with nine and eight, respectively. The Lady Tigers (1-0) received four double-digit scoring performances, including 20 from junior DaShawn Harden.
Defensively Roberts led SFA with eight rebounds, as Carter added six.
The Ladyjacks managed to shoot just 34 percent from the floor compared to 49.3 from LSU.
SFA hung with the Lady Tigers in the early going, exchanging the lead two times before arriving at a 17-17 tie at the 11:07 mark following a jumper from Carter. However, LSU outscored the Ladyjacks 29-12 over the next nine minutes to take a 46-29 lead into the half
In the second half, SFA went on a 19-7 run to pull within five points at 53-48 on a made free throw from senior Kali Jerrell with 13:47 to play, before the Lady Tigers responded 33-10 run that spanned the rest of the half to take the 86-58 final.
SFA will learn its second-round destination and opponent Sunday, Nov. 10. The consolation matchups begin Nov. 15-16.
