NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Ladyjacks Head Women’s Basketball Coach Brandon Schneider announced the signing of three recruits to National Letters of Intent on Thursday during the early signing period. The class includes one forward player, one post player and one guard that coaching staff anticipates making an impact quickly at SFA on the court.
Signing with SFA out of Bishop Lynch High School in the Dallas area is Danielle Rogers. The 6-2 forward is an All-District player and honor roll student. Schneider said Rogers is a versatile forward that is among the best in the state that can create a strong presence in the paint.
“In the 2014 class, Danielle is one of the top 20 players in Texas. She is a long, athletic forward who has both a back-to-the-basket game as well as a face up game,” Schneider said. “She is terrific in transition and will thrive in our defensive system. Her skill level and ability to play both inside and out make her a very difficult match up. She is an animal on the glass and her length and athleticism will allow her to defend multiple positions.”
The other post player signing with SFA is Tatum High School center Kaylah Starling. The 6-1 center was named First Team All-District last season and earned 2012-13 All-State TGCA as well. Starling was named District 17 2A Defensive MVP her sophomore season and was named All-East Texas Newcomer of the Year her freshman season. The coaching staff anticipates Starling to redshirt her freshman year to develop in the system.
“Kaylah will bring a strong, athletic presence to our front line. She’s an outstanding rebounder and low post finisher,” Schneider said. “She has a 6-4 wingspan which allows her to play big defensively. Kaylah has tremendous upside and we are excited to have her as an addition to our program.”
The final signee during the early signing period is Georgetown guard Charisma Alexander. The 5-8 guard was named Second Team All-District during her junior season and was an honorable mention as a sophomore. Alexander also lettered in track and field and received Academic All-District honors her freshman and sophomore seasons.
“We feel Charisma is one of the premier defensive players in the state. She’s long, tough, extremely athletic and has a lock down mentality when given the assignment of defending the opponents’ best player,” Schneider said. “She excels in transition and is a terrific finisher around the rim. She’s very quick off her feet and has a nose for the ball on the boards. Charisma is the type of player who consistently comes up with the 50/50 balls.”
What Their Coaches are Saying:
“Bishop Lynch is extremely proud of Danielle Rogers for signing her NLI with Stephen F Austin to continue her education and basketball career. She follows former BL and SFA alum Jordan Ford, who had a wonderful career at SFA.” – Andy Zihlman, Bishop Lynch High School Head Coach
“Charisma is a very non-assuming player, who is a lock-down defender and great offensive rebounder. She possesses a super mid-range jumper and the ability to get to the rim. As a coaching staff at Georgetown HS, we are very pleased that Charisma is going to be a Ladyjack. It's going to be a win-win situation for SFA and Charisma.” – Rhonda Farney, Georgetown High School Head Coach
“When I think of Kaylah, I feel blessed to have coached a kid that is so focused and the complete package as basketball player. She has been a starter for four years here and will definitely be missed. She is truly an awesome kid to coach.” – Patricia Nelson, Tatum High School Head Coach
