FRISCO, Texas - Junior guard Tammara Marion was named the Southland women's basketball player of the week for the second time this season by vote of the league's sports information directors the conference announced Monday.
A native of Houston, Texas, Marion led the Ladyjacks to a pair of wins last week, breaking a three-game losing skid and pushing them back above .500 with four league games remaining. Marion hit four 3-point shots, and scored 19 points, including hitting the go-ahead triple with 20 seconds remaining in the game to secure a win over UT Arlington, Wednesday.
She followed that with a 25-point outburst that included five assists and five steals, scoring 20 points in the first half in a 46-point blowout of Texas State Saturday afternoon. For the week, Marion hit both 50 percent from the field, and from 3-point distance averaging 22 points and 3.5 assists over two games.
Honorable mention this week went to Lamar senior guard Jenna Plumley, McNeese State sophomore guard Ashlyn Baggett and Sam Houston State sophomore guard Britni Martin. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland women's basketball sports information directors.
Each school's SID nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player.
