FOR STARTERS
For only the fourth time in SFA history, the Ladyjacks have started out a season 7-0 and it marks the first time doing so since the 1988-89 team. After a perfect November, SFA sits alone in first place in the Southland Conference West Division with six non-conference games remaining until SLC play begins on Jan. 7 at Southeastern Louisiana.
LAST TIME OUT
Tammara Marion scored a game-high 26 points and the Ladyjacks as a team had their best offensive effort of the season in a runaway 78-50 victory over St. Edwards Saturday evening at William R. Johnson Coliseum. SFA remained undefeated on the season, improving to 7-0 for just the fourth time in program history. The Ladyjacks (7-0) shot a season-high 50 percent from the floor and 37 percent from three-point land (9-of-24). SFA forced 23 turnovers and limited St. Edwards to just 37 percent from the field and won the points off turnovers battle, 27-17.
THE RAZORBACKS
The University of Arkansas women’s basketball team escaped with a 59-53 road win at Middle Tennessee
State Saturday. Sarah Watkins paced the team with 15 points despite being in foul trouble early. Dominique Robinson had 13 pints and C’eira Ricketts added 12 for the Razorbacks.
THE SERIES
Arkansas leads the all-time series 7-3, including wins in the last five meetings. SFA last beat the Razorbacks
83-57 in the 1991-92 season.
COVERAGE
Tuesday’s game will be broadcast on COX Sports Network and available online at www.arkansasrazorbacks.com.
UP NEXT
The Ladyjacks will remain on the road and travel to Edinburg, TX for a Saturday matchup against UT-Pan American.
THIRD-BEST START EVER: At 7-0 the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks are off to their thirdbest start in school history and have matched the start of the 1988-89 team that reeled off nine straight wins to begin the season. The only three streaks higher were 9-0 starts in
each of the 1988-89 and 1974-75 seasons and the career-best mark of 11-0 set by the 1979-80 squad.
Best Starts in SFA History
1. 1979-80: 11-0
2. 1988-89: 9-0
1974-75: 9-0
4. 2011-12: 7-0
5. 1989-90: 6-0
MARION GOES OFF: Senior guard Tammara Marion, who has struggled with her shot most of the season, had a first half for the ages in Saturday’s win over St. Edwards. Marion scored 23 of her 26 points in the first 20 minutes and went 4-of-7 from three-point
territory.
CUTTING DOWN ON TURNOVERS: The Ladyjacks committed a season-low 13 turnovers in their win over St. Edwards Saturday. On the flip side they forced 23 Hilltopper turnovers and scored 27 points of those miscues.
OFFENSE FLOWING: The Ladyjacks scored a season-high 79 points against St. Edwardsand shot a season-best 50 percent from the field. A lot of SFA’s success came because of the way they were distributing the ball, racking up a season-high 20 assists including four each from Courtney Conwright and Brittney Matthew.
SCHNEIDER GOES OVER .500: Despite starting his SFA tenure 12-18 in his first campaign with the Ladyjacks, head coach Brandon Schneider has already seen his career SFA record jump one game over .500 (19-18) with the team’s 7-0 start.
