MARVELOUS MARION: Senior guard Tammara Marion finished with a team and game-high 19 points in SFA’s win at UTPA. After a slow start to the season, Marion has bumped her scoring average to 14.7 ppg and is averaging 20 ppg over her last five games.Marion is currently eighth in the Southland Conference in scoring and tied for first in 3-point field goals made. Marion also ranks 25th nationally in 3pt. FGs/game (2.9) and is 54th in 3-point FG Pct. (40.0).
TOP TURNAOUNDS IN NATION: After a 12-18 record in 2010-11, the Ladyjacks have turned the page to a new era and their 8-1 record (88.9 winning %) is proof of that. In fact, SFA currently has the fifth biggest turnaround in the nation with a +48.9 in winning percentage compared to last season. Oregon State (57.5), Cincinnati (54.7), Ole Miss (51.2) and Vermont (50.0) are the only other team’s to have a bigger turnaround thus far.
CONWRIGHT PILING UP THE DIMES: Despite struggling with her shot thus far, senior guard Courtney Conwright has found other ways to help her team, particularly in distributing the basketball where she is averaging a career-high and team-leading four assists per contest and has already tallied 35 total assists. Entering this season Conwright had averaged just 1.6 assists per game and had recorded 59 and 53 assists in each of the respective past two seasons.
SCHNEIDER GOES OVER .500: Despite starting his SFA tenure 12-18 in his first campaign with the Ladyjacks, head coach Brandon Schneider has already seen his career SFA record go above .500 (20-19) with the team’s 8-1 start.
HENDERSON RETURNS TO STARTING LINEUP: Freshman Tierany Henderson returned to the starting lineup for the first time since Nov. 19 against Wiley. The Austin, Texas native is averaging 4.0 ppg and 3.6 rpg.
