FOR STARTERS
After eight of its first 10 games of the year being on the road, SFA finally gets an extended stay at home when it begins a four-game homestand on Tuesday against Houston Baptist. The Ladyjacks will then get back-to-back games against Conference USA opponents for the second time this year, this time with SMU and Tulsa coming into the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
LAST TIME OUT
SFA was hampered by poor shooting and 18 turnovers as Arkansas State picked up a 59-42 win in Jonesboro on Dec. 21. Courtney Conwright led SFA with a dozen points and Tammara Marion had 11, while Amina Sawyer doubled her blocked shot total for the year with five against the Red Wolves.
THE OPPONENTS
Houston Baptist comes in with just a 2-10 record and has dropped each of its last three contests since an upset win over Sam Houston State on Dec. 11. They share two common opponents with SFA, with both teams having dropped road games to Texas Southern and Rice. SMU comes in at 6-5 after dropping two of three in Las Vegas lat week. Tulsa had dropped four of its first six to open the year - including a loss to Brandon Schneider’s former squad, Emporia State - before picking up a win over Texas A&M International just before the Christmas break to run its record to 3-4.
vs THE FIELD
SFA is 2-0 all-time against HBU, with the last win being a 92-46 win last year in Houston. The Ladyjacks hold an 8-4 edge in the series against SMU, with the last victory coming at home, 69-62, in 2000 and the Mustangs having won each of the last two meetings. Against Tulsa, the Golden Hurricane picked up an 84-80 win in Tulsa last year to take a 4-3 advantage in the all-time series.
COVERAGE
All three games can be followed over the air with James Dixon having the call on KTBQ 107.7 FM.
UP NEXT
The Ladyjacks open up defense of its Southland Conference co-championship on Jan. 8 at home against Southeastern Louisiana and alternate home and away games for each of the next three weeks.
