Softball Adds Assistant Coach

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin head softball coach Gay McNutt announced Tuesday the addition of assistant coach Micah Rhodes to the Ladyjack staff for the 2009-10 year. Rhodes comes to SFA after two seasons as a graduate assistant at Louisiana-Monroe.
"We're really excited to have Micah on staff," SFA head coach Gay McNutt said. "She will bring a tremendous amount of enthusiasm to our program."
The Grapevine, Texas, native was a four-year starter in the outfield at Centenary College before beginning her coaching career in the fall of 2007. At Centenary, Rhodes was a four-time honoree on the First-Team All-Mid-Continent Conference list and a four-time selection to the All-Louisiana Team.
Rhodes was the Mid-Continent Conference Newcomer of the Year in 2004, and, in each of her last two seasons with the Ladies, she was named the Centenary College Student Athlete of the Year.
The right fielder ended her four-year career as Centenary's all-time leader in home runs, RBI, hits and batting average. She is the only player in Centenary history to top the .400 batting average and 40 RBI plateaus in a single season. Rhodes also holds the top career marks for doubles, total bases, walks and slugging percentage and ranks second all-time in runs scored.
At SFA, Rhodes will work primarily with outfielders and will help assistant coach Craig Snider with hitting instruction. Snider, who previously was in charge of the Ladyjack outfield, will now shift his focus to the infielders.
"Adding Micah will allow Craig to broaden his coaching experience, and I think she will really have a positive impact on our offensive performance," McNutt said.
Rhodes obtained an M.E.D. in English education from Louisiana-Monroe in the spring of 2009. She earned a bachelor's in English education from Centenary in December of 2007. Rhodes was a four-time academic all-conference honoree at Centenary and was named to the Dean's List in six straight semesters.
