SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Texas State offense scored in all but one inning and Zack Tritz threw seven shutout innings as the Bobcats took their second straight game over SFA, 10-0 in only seven innings at Bobcat Field on Saturday.
The `Jacks (7-16, 2-8) got a runner to third in the first inning, but that was as close to scoring as they would get as SFA was shut out for only the second time this season. It was the first time they have been run-ruled since Southeastern Louisiana won 17-7 in seven innings on March 15, 2008.
Texas State (16-8, 8-3) has now won six straight, run-ruling SFA for the first time since May 5, 2007 in San Marcos.
Erich Lehmann only lasted two innings for the `Jacks, allowing five runs including a four-run second inning that broke it open for the `Cats. Jeremy Tamez, Jason West and Ryan Priest also saw time on the hill, allowing five more runs between them.
West allowed two runs in the fifth, but looked impressive in pitching out of a jam in the fourth. Tyler Sibley reached third on a misplayed fly ball by Bo Coffman in right field to lead off the frame, but West got Bret Atwood to ground out and then struck out Paul Goldschmidt and Keith Prestridge to keep Sibley from scoring.
Justin Long had two of SFA's five hits on the day, while Zach Gardner's first-inning double moved him just one double shy of tying Noel Trevino for sixth all-time in hits and just two hits shy of tying Jeff Medlin for second all-time in that category.
SFA will try and salvage one game of the series on Sunday when Jared Schrom is scheduled to throw for the `Jacks, opposed by right-hander Brian Borski.
