NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks will look to get back in the win column Saturday, after having their modest three-game win streak snapped Wednesday evening in San Marcos. The Ladyjacks (13-12/8-5 SLC) enter Saturday's game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a two-tie for first in the Southland Conference East division. The Islanders are currently 10-16 (.385) on the season, and tied for fifth in the SLC West with a 5-8 (.385) record. Saturday's game is slated to tip off at 6 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
Coaches: Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack head coach Lee Ann Riley is 129-103 (.556) in her eighth season in Nacogdoches. She is 260-161 (.618) in 13 seasons as a head coach. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi head coach Robert Robinson is 37-52 (.416) in four seasons with the Islanders.
SFA vs. the Islanders: The Ladyjacks are 5-2 (.714) all-time against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. After dropping the first two games in the series, the Ladyjacks have responded by winning five straight, including a season sweep of the 2007-08 series. The Ladyjacks recorded a 68-57 over the Islanders last season in Nacogdoches.
Bobcat Scratch Fever: The difference in the outcome of the Ladyjacks' game at Texas State may have very well come from points off turnovers. Texas State forced SFA into 16 turnovers, which the Bobcats converted into 24 points. The Ladyjacks forced Texas State to commit 15 turnovers, but the Ladyjacks were able to manage only 12 points from the turnovers.
Career High: Junior Whitney Cormier continues to make a push for Southland Conference Player of the Year honors. Cormier led the Ladyjacks with 16 points Wednesday evening, and is currently tied for second in the league in scoring (16.2 ppg) and fourth in steals (1.9 spg) during conference games. She is averaging 17.9 points, and 6.6 rebounds over the course of the team's last eight games.
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks will close out the road portion of the 2008-09 schedule Wednesday, Mar. 4, when they travel to Conway, Ark., to take on Central Arkansas. The game against the Sugar Bears is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from the Farris Center.
