NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team returns to the court Friday to face Ouachita Baptist, at 7 p.m., in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The game will be the second of two preseason scrimmages for the Ladyjacks.
Ouachita Baptist is an NCAA Division II school from the Gulf South Conference. The Lady Tigers are coming off one their best season's in school history finishing 23-9, and advancing to the NCAA Division II South Region Championship game.
The Ladyjacks made quick work of St. Mary's (TX) Monday night in their exhibition opener bouncing the Lady Rattlers, 70-43. The Ladyjacks used a 29-1 run midway through the first half to build an insurmountable lead.
Senior Whitney Cormier led the Ladyjacks with a game-high 21 points, and was one of six players to score at least six points in the game. She was also one of five SFA players to pull down at least five rebounds in the game.
The Ladyjacks enter the 2009-10 season with high expectations. SFA was named as the SLC East Division favorite according to a poll released Tuesday of the league head coaches and sports information directors. Lamar has been picked as a slim favorite over Texas-Arlington. Along with the preseason polls, Cormier was named first-team preseason All-SLC.
The Ladyjacks open the regular season Saturday against North Texas. The game against the Mean Green is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks will also be holding a special canned food drive that day. Fans who donate three canned food items will receive free admission to the game. The donations will be delivered to Nacogdoches Hope and Harvest House.
