NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack (8-10/3-3 SLC) basketball team will look to bounce back from a disappointing 76-69 loss at Northwestern State when it hosts McNeese State tonight at 5 p.m. in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Cowgirls enter the game with a 10-8 (.556) overall record, and are currently fourth in the Southland Conference East Division standings with a 2-3 (.400) mark. Tonight's game is a doubleheader with the SFA men. It is one of three doubleheaders that SFA basketball teams have played in this season.
Coaches: Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack head coach Lee Ann Riley is 124-101 (.551) in her eighth season in Nacogdoches. She is 255-159 (.616) in 13th seasons as a head coach. McNeese State head coach Brooks Donald Williams is 20-29 (.408) in her second season with the Cowgirls.
SFA vs. the Cowgirls: The Ladyjacks lead the all-time series versus McNeese State, 37-8 (.822). The Ladyjacks have won three-of-the-last four meetings in the series, but had their modest three-game win streak against the Cowgirls snapped last season in Lake Charles, 68-60. It was the only meeting between the two schools last season.
Crashing the Boards: Despite the setback in Natchitoches, the Ladyjacks still dominated the glass. SFA out-rebounded the Lady Demons, 51-37, including 24 offensive rebounds. It marks the third time this season that SFA has pulled down at least 50 rebounds in a game.
Seeing Double: The Ladyjacks had five players finish in double figures Wednesday's night at Northwestern State, led by 14 points from junior Whitney Cormier. Sophomore Ebony Alexander added 13, freshman Schera Sampson chipped in 12, senior Natashia Green scored 11 and sophomore Decreasha Goodner scored 10. It is the first time the Ladyjacks have had five players in double figures since defeating Missouri in overtime last year.
Double-Double: Junior Whitney Cormier scored 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to record her second double-double of the season, and the team's third. It was the fourth double-double of Cormier's career.
Career High: Freshman Schera Sampson came off the bench to provide SFA with a spark Wednesday in Natchitoches. Sampson scored a career-high 12 points, and pulled down a career-high eight rebounds in the contest. It marked the first time in Sampson's career that she has scored in double figures.
