Greetings from Jessica Gaines of the SFA Ladyjacks,
March Madness is here again. The Ladyjacks remain steadfast in the quest for success and seeking some redemption for our efforts this season. This season has taught us to embrace triumph and disaster. We are even more determined to obtain positive results in the home stretch of our conference schedule.
Last week we lost two heartbreaking games against Conference #1 ranked Texas State (70-67) and #2 ranked University of Texas @ Arlington (77-49). The losses were frustrating for the team. We have put this behind and look ahead to our next opponent.
However, some positive accomplishments and milestones were reached for the Ladyjacks. Nikki Carr became the 23rd Ladyjack in school history to score her 1,000-career point and the Ladyjacks captured the program's 800th all-time win. These are significant milestones for the program. It is a humbling experience to know this year's team made history in that regard.
On Wednesday, we travel to Corpus Christi to face the Islanders of Texas A&M Corpus Christi, who have a record of 6-8 in conference. Our final home game for the season will be on Saturday, March 8, at 6:00pm. We will faceoff against the Road Runners of University of Texas @ San Antonio. Please come out and support us in our journey to victory. Both of these will be tough games and we need your support.
On behalf of the team, I want to give a special tribute to our lone senior, Nikki Carr. Nikki is a positive contributor for the team in so many ways. I can recall a number of outstanding performances from her during my time here. We want to give a big shout out to her in the last two regular season games. I am sure she has got a few more Ladyjack highlights.
The Ladyjacks are known for their grit, tenacity, and unwillingness to give up. When we are down, we become stronger. We are committed to bounce back from our two losses and prevail with ticket to the Southland Conference Tournament. Conference Tournament begins on Wednesday, March 12 in Katy, Texas at the Merrell Center. Make plans to be there because we WILL be there.
Therefore, until next time, I leave you with this quote from John Wooden, "Understanding that the good of the group comes first is fundamental to being a highly productive member of a team."
