NACOGDOCHES - After splitting their two games this past week, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (7-14/4-5 SLC) will prepare for their first-ever trip to Conway, Ark., to take on Central Arkansas. The Sugar Bears enter Thursday's game with a 5-17 (.227) overall record, and are currently in a four-way tie for third in the SLC East Division with a 3-6 (.333) conference record. Despite their overall mark, UCA has shown signs of improvement over the last couple weeks winning three of its last four. The game against Central Arkansas is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from the Farris Center.
The Ladyjacks are a perfect 1-0 all-time against Central Arkansas. The lone meeting between the two schools came last season when SFA recorded a 64-54 victory in Nacogdoches.
Despite some of the struggles that SFA has had offensively this season, they were not evident in Wednesday's victory over the Islanders. The Ladyjacks knocked down 22-of-49 (.449) shots, which is the team's highest output of the season. The Ladyjacks really began to heat up in the second half of the game, knocking down 12-of-22 (.545) shots in the final 20 minutes.
Senior Nikki Carr was key in the Ladyjacks' 11-point victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Wednesday evening. Carr knocked down 4-of-7 shots to finish with a team-high 15 points. She also grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds. It marks the third time this season that Carr has recorded a double-double.
Freshman Decreasha Goodner has seemed to rediscover her stroke. After scoring 21 points in each of the team's first two games, Goodner went through a stretch of 13 games without recording double figures, but she has now reached that mark in three of her last four games. During that time she is averaging 11.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Senior Nikki Carr has set the pace for the Ladyjacks over the course of the season. Carr currently leads the team in scoring (13.0 ppg), rebounding (6.6 rpg), assists (4.4 apg), steals (3.1 spg) and is third on the team in blocks.
The Ladyjacks will return home Saturday, Feb. 16th for a showdown against Northwestern State. The Lady Demons are 10-12 (.455) on the season, but are tied with UCA for third in the SLC East at 3-6 (.333). Northwestern State has won two-straight games, and three of their past five contests. The game against the Lady Demons is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
