NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team will be in action Monday evening taking on St. Mary's (TX) at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The game against the Lady Rattlers is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
The Ladyjacks dispensed of Arkansas-Monticello, 83-56, Wednesday evening. SFA found scoring from several different places. Three players finished the game in double figures, led by sophomore Jordan Ford and junior Whitney Cormier who each scored 14 points. Sophomore Ebony Alexander also chipped in 10 points in the contest.
The Ladyjacks did a great job spreading the wealth as every player that entered the game scored. SFA was well above its 2007-08 season average, shooting 41 percent from the floor. The Ladyjacks struggled from behind the arc, and from the free throw line however. SFA shot at a 29-percent clip from beyond the arc, and 65 percent from the charity stripe.
SFA showed a knack for attacking the glass outrebounding the visitors, 57-45. Not only did every Ladyjack who entered the game score, but every player also pulled down at least three rebounds.
St. Mary's is a strong NCAA Division III team from the Heartland Conference. The Lady Rattlers are coming off a 25-5 (.833) season that saw them go a perfect 13-0 in conference play. Admission to Monday's game is free.
The Ladyjacks open the regular season Friday at Prairie View A&M. The game against the Lady Panthers is set to tip off at 6 p.m. from Prairie View.
