NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will look to bounce back from their first setback of the season when they take the court against Tulsa. SFA (2-1) will be facing a Golden Hurricane team that enters the contest with an identical 2-1 mark. The two teams have followed similar paths heading into Monday's matchup. The Ladyjacks won their first two games of the season, before dropping a 77-42 decision at No. 9 Baylor Friday evening. Tulsa also won their opening two games of the year, but is coming off a 65-50 setback at Oral Roberts. Monday's game is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA vs. the Golden Hurricane: The series between the two schools is all knotted up at 3-3 (.500). Ever since the two schools renewed the matchup on the court during the 2003-04 season, the home court advantage has determined the winner of the contest. The Golden Hurricane won the meeting in 2003-04, and the victor has switched every season. The Ladyjacks dropped a 62-49 decision last season in Tulsa.
249 Down, One to Go: With her team's 10-point win over Houston Baptist, SFA head coach Lee Ann Riley is only one win away from another coaching milestone. Riley currently has 249 career wins, and needs only one more victory to record her 250th all-time win.
Picking Up Where She Left Off: Junior Whitney Cormier has jumped out to a quick start to the 2008-09 season. Cormier has scored in double figures in all three games this season and currently leads the Ladyjacks in scoring (12.3 ppg) and rebounds (7.7 rpg).
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks return to action Friday when they open the Piggly Wiggly Classic in Memphis, Tenn. SFA will open against Jacksonville State Friday, and play either Wichita State or tournament-host Memphis Saturday.
