NACOGDOCHES - The Ladyjacks are 37-7 (.841) all-time against McNeese State. SFA has won the last three games in the series, and four of the past five against the Cowgirls. SFA recorded a 69-63 victory over McNeese State during the 2005-06 season, which was the last time the two schools met in Lake Charles.
The Ladyjacks recorded the program's 799th all-time victory with their 59-50 win over Southeastern Louisiana. The Ladyjacks are now only one win shy of No. 800. That victory would put SFA in some very elite company. Only five other NCAA Division I schools have recorded at least 800 wins. The list includes Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, Old Dominion, Texas and James Madison. There is one other school that is on pace to record it's 800th victory this season. Tennessee Tech currently has 786 all-time wins.
After hitting only 1-of-11 (.091) three-pointers in the first half, the Ladyjacks caught fire in the second. SFA connected on 7-of-12 (.583) three-pointers in the final 20 minutes against Lamar to erase a 10-point deficit. The Ladyjacks finished the game 8-of-23 (.348) from beyond the arc. It marked the most triples for SFA since it knocked down nine in the victory over Missouri.
Senior Nikki Carr became the 23rd Ladyjack in program history join the 1,000-point club. Carr scored 12 points in the game, but she joined the club with her fifth point of the game, which came on a layup with 13:05 remaining in the second half.
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday, Jan. 26, when they host Sam Houston State. At halftime of the game SFA will honor the late Sue Gunter, as well as dedicating the Sue Gunter Ladyjack Basketball Office Suite. The game against the Bearkats is slated to begin at 3 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
