OXFORD, Miss. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team was swept Friday in its first two games in the Ole Miss Red and Blue Classic. SFA lost to host team Ole Miss, 8-2, in the first game, then was shut out by Coastal Carolina, 10-0, in Game 2.
Michele Huffman, Chelsea Carr, Briana Bishop and Heather Hebert collected hits in the first game. Bishop's was a two-RBI double in the sixth inning that drove in SFA's only two runs of the contest. Huffman, who had led off the inning with a triple, scored.
Magen Butler started the game in the circle for SFA and lasted three innings. She was charged with six earned runs on eight hits and three walks in taking the loss. Kari Hugie pitched three innings of relief and gave up two runs on five hits.
SFA's offensive struggled continued against Coastal Carolina. The Ladyjacks mustered just two hits -- one by Bishop and one by Ashley Wilburn -- in the shutout loss. Wilburn pitched all five innings in the run-rule shortened game, allowing 10 earned runs on 13 hits.
The Ladyjacks (3-14) will return to action Saturday, when they are set to take on Kennesaw State and Southern Miss. The first game is set for a 1 p.m. start, with the Southern Miss contest slated to get under way at 3 p.m.
