Lumberjacks fall at Houston, 15-6

HOUSTON - Despite a five-run fourth inning that saw two Lumberjack home runs, it wasn't enough as Stephen F. Austin fell to the Houston Cougars, 15-6, Tuesday afternoon at Cougar Field in Houston. SFA falls to 1-2 on the year and Houston moves to 1-0.
The `Jacks gave up an early 2-0 lead when starter Jake Leonhardt walked the first two batters of the game and both scored when the third batter of the game hit an RBI single to right field. SFA then gave up nine runs in the third inning to fall back 11-0.
In the fourth inning, SFA's designated hitter Kevin Crabtree hit a home run to center field off the first pitch of the inning. After Steven Hill flew out to right field, Jared Pitts came in and hit a single to third base. Chris Smith then hit a home run over the left field foul pole to make the score 11-3. Kevin Croft followed with a double down the left field line and crossed the plate on a David Jeans' single to center field. Jeans then scored to make the score 11-5.
Houston then scored two runs in each the fourth and fifth innings to put the `Jacks within 10. SFA scored a run in the sixth inning to stay alive in the game at 15-6, the eventual final score.
Croft finished the game with two hits in three at-bats with two runs scored. Jeans followed up with two hits with a run scored and an RBI. Hill also had two hits in the game.
SFA is on the road once again this weekend as it travels to Louisiana-Monroe to face the Warhawks in a three-game series.
