
SFA Closes Exhibition Slate with Impressive Win

NACOGDOCHES - Freshman Chantol Drennan scored 21 points, and classmate Decreasha Goodner added 18 points as the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team disposed of Huston-Tillotson, 96-34, Tuesday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The victory was the Ladyjacks' final tune-up before opening the season Sunday at New Orleans.
In similar fashion to the first exhibition, the Ladyjack freshmen were impressive. Along with Drennan, and Goodner, Ebony Alexander added nine points and three rebounds, while classmate Jordan Ford scored five points and led the team with 14 rebounds.
SFA was dominant in every aspect of the game. The Ladyjacks shot 48 percent from the floor, while holding the Rams to a 14-of-54 (26 percent) performance. SFA also outrebounded their visitors by 31, 60-29.
The Ladyjacks once again turned up the pressure defensively to force some turnovers and work some easy baskets. The Ladyjacks recorded 19 steals and forced 37 turnovers which led to 54 points in the paint. SFA also scored 42 points off Huston-Tillotson turnovers.
Amidst a flurry of turnovers and missed shots, the Rams were only able to manage one player in double figures. Roslynn Robbins led Huston-Tillotson with 13 points.
Senior Nikki Carr added 10 points and eight rebounds in 26 minutes of action, while sophomore Whitney Cormier added eight points. Junior Jessica Gaines knocked down the team's lone three-pointer and finished the game with six points and seven rebounds.
SFA opens the regular season Sunday when they travel to New Orleans, La., to face the Lady Privateers. The game against New Orleans is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
