The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will continue its season long five-game road trip Saturday when it travels to Ruston, La., to face the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters. The Ladyjacks (1-4/.200) have dropped three-straight and are coming off a disappointing 66-60 setback at SMU. Louisiana Tech is looking to get back on the winning track after an 81-60 setback at No. 1 (ESPN/USA Today Women's Top 25 poll) Tennessee. The Lady Techsters enter Saturday's contest with a 2-2 (.500) overall record. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from the Thomas Assembly Center.
The Ladyjacks trail the all-time series against Louisiana Tech, 6-24 (.200), but put an end to a four-game skid last season with a 66-55 victory in Nacogdoches. The Ladyjacks won four of the first seven meetings in the series, which dates back to the 1977-78 season. Louisiana Tech recorded an 80-44 victory against SFA during the 2002-03 season, which marked the last time the programs faced off in Ruston.
Freshman Antoinette Davis was rewarded for her hard work by earning her first-career start Wednesday against SMU. Davis in turn rewarded SFA head coach Lee Ann Riley for her decision by pulling down a career-high 10 rebounds. She also added five points in the game.
Senior Nikki Carr continues to improve her scoring output as the season wears on. Only six days after setting a season high with 15 points against Nevada, Carr went out and set a new season high against SMU. Carr led the Ladyjacks with 17 points. She also pulled down five rebounds, dished out three assists and recorded three steals.
Carr has once again written her name in the SFA records book. Carr finished Wednesday night's game against SMU with three steals. With her second steal against the Mustangs, Carr moved onto the school's all-time 10 list in that category. She is currently 10th with 205 career steals.
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday when they travel to Columbia, Mo., to compete in the State Farm Tiger Classic. The Ladyjacks will face Alcorn State Friday at 5 p.m. in the first round of the tournament. SFA will face either Missouri or Mississippi Valley State Saturday. All games will be played at the Mizzou Arena.
