
Ladyjacks Prepare for SLC Opener

THIBODAUX, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will look to open the 2007 Southland Conference schedule on a positive note Thursday when it opens league play against Nicholls State. The Ladyjacks enter the clash with an 8-5 (.615) overall record after defeating Jackson State, 62-60, last Saturday in Jackson, Miss. Nicholls State enters the game looking for a fresh start after posting a 2-8 (.200) overall record after the non-conference schedule. The game against the Lady Colonels is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. from Stopher Gym.
SFA vs. the Lady Colonels: The Ladyjacks are 31-2 (.939) all-time against Nicholls State. The Lady Colonels won the inaugural meeting between the two schools recording a 53-51 win during the 1984-85 season. SFA then rattled off 31-straight victories before dropping a 68-67 decision in Thibodaux last year.
SFA in SLC Openers: The Ladyjacks are 18-1 (.947) all-time in Southland Conference opening games. SFA has won two-straight league openers, with the lone setback coming during the 2003-04 season. The Ladyjacks are a perfect 2-0 all-time when facing Nicholls State in conference openers. The 2006-07 season will mark the second time in school history that SFA has opened the season at the Lady Colonels.
SLC Road Openers: The Ladyjacks are 11-2 (.846) in Southland Conference road opening games dating back to the 1993-94 season. The Ladyjacks won 10-straight road-opening SLC games before dropping contests during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons.
Charity Tosses: Senior Charity Egenti has really upped her offensive output over the course of the past three games. She is averaging 19.3 points per game during that stretch, which includes a career-high 24 points against then-No. 24 Arkansas.
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks will be in Hammond, La., Saturday afternoon to face Southeastern Louisiana. The game against the Lady Lions is slated to begin at 3 p.m. from the University Center.
