NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team, winners of five of their last six games, will look to go in search of their third straight victory Thursday when it hosts Texas State. The Bobcats come to Nacogdoches with a 12-7 (.632) overall record and sit just a half game ahead of SFA in the Southland Conference West Division with a 5-1 (.833) league record. The game against the Bobcats is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA vs. the Bobcats: The Ladyjacks are 46-6 (.885) all-time against Texas State. SFA has won four consecutive, and 14 of the last 16 meetings in the series. The Ladyjacks swept the season series last season, which included an 82-49 victory in Nacogdoches. The series dates back to the 1972-73 season when SFA recorded 56-39 victory over the Bobcats.
94 Down, Six To Go: SFA head coach Lee Ann Riley is approaching another milestone. With her team's win at Sam Houston State, Riley is only six wins shy of her 100th career win at SFA.
Home Sweet Home: The Ladyjacks are one of the nation's all-time winningest teams at home, with a 350-87 (.801) all-time record. The Ladyjacks have won 27 of their last 33 games at home and were a perfect 14-0 at home last season. The Ladyjacks are 5-2 (.714) at home this season.
Academic Shootout: SFA will be competing in its annual Ladyjack Academic Shootout Friday, Feb. 16, against Sam Houston State. A pledge table will be located at the north entrance to the coliseum prior to every Ladyjack home game. Fans can pledge money for every point made against the Bearkats. The money helps raise summer school scholarships for the Ladyjacks.
Making a Point, Off the Bench: Senior Jennifer Simpson was a starter for the primary part of her junior season. As a senior, she has been moved to more of a role player, but she may have never played a bigger role in a game than Saturday's win at Sam Houston State. Simpson finished the game with a career-high 16 points and 11 rebounds. She was 5-of-9 (.556) from the floor and a perfect 2-of-2 from the three-point line. It also marked Simpson's first career double-double.
Speed Limit 96: The Ladyjacks exploded for a season-high 96 points in the win at Sam Houston State. It marks the most points by a Ladyjack team since it scored 100 against the Bearkats during the 1999-2000 season.
Charity Tosses: Senior Charity Egenti has really upped her output over the course of the past seven games. She is averaging 20.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game during that time.
Inside Force: Charity Egenti has really become a force to be reckoned with in the low post. The 6-3 senior is currently fourth in the conference averaging 16.1 points per game, leads the conference averaging 9.3 rebounds per game and is currently third in the SLC averaging 1.39 blocks per game.
Up Next ... SFA returns to action Saturday, Jan. 27 when it travels to Arlington, Texas to take on UTA. The game against Lady Mavs is slated to begin 4 p.m., from the Texas Hall.
