The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team completed a sweep of its three-game homestand by defeating North Texas, 75-68, Thursday night. The Ladyjacks are now 6-3 (.667) on the season and have won a season-high four consecutive games. The Ladyjacks have also won six of their last eight contests. SFA will put that win streak on the line when they travel to Lorman, Miss., to face Alcorn State Saturday, Dec. 16. The Lady Braves are 2-4 (.333) after dropping games at Rice and against Kent State last week in the Gene Hackerman/Rice Invitational. The game against the Lady Braves is slated to tip off at 7 p.m. from the Whitney Complex.
SFA vs. the Lady Braves: The Ladyjacks are 6-1 (.857) all-time against Alcorn State, and are riding a six-game win streak. The Lady Braves lone victory in the series came in the inaugural meeting between the two schools, when ASU recorded an 88-74 victory during the 1983-84 season. The Ladyjacks recorded an 82-58 victory against Alcorn State last year in Nacogdoches.
Charity Tosses: Senior post Charity Egenti is taking advantage of her senior season. She currently leads the team in scoring and rebounding, but has stepped up her play over the past two games. Egenti scored a career-high 21 points and tied a career-high with her 10 rebounds against Tulsa. Two nights later, she equalled her offensive production by scoring 21 points and pulling down a career-high 13 rebounds in the win over North Texas. Over the course of the team's last two games, Egenti is averaging 21.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals per game.
Double-Double: Senior Charity Egenti recorded her second and third double-double of the season in the team's victories over Tulsa and North Texas. It marked third time this season that Egenti has recorded double-figure points and rebounds in a game. She recorded only two double-doubles during the 2005-06 season.
Freshman Leadership: Fort Worth native, Whitney Cormier, is really turning some heads during her rookie season. Cormier recorded career highs in points, rebounds and assists in the victory against North Texas. Cormier finished the game with 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists. It marked the third time this season that Cormier has struck for double figures in points.
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks will continue to make their way through the current six-game road swing. SFA will be in Little Rock, Ark., to face UALR Tuesday, Dec. 19. The Ladyjacks will return to the court 24 hours later to face Southeastern Conference foe Arkansas. The game against the Lady Razorbacks will be played at the Summit Arena in Hot Springs, Ark., instead of Fayetteville.
