NACOGDOCHES - The defending Southland Conference champion Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team kicks off the 2006-07 season Wednesday with an exhibition against Texas A&M-Commerce. The game against the Lions is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Admission to the exhibition game is free.
The Ladyjacks return two starters and eight letterwinners from last year's 23-8 (.742) team that went 14-2 (.875) in Southland Conference play to win the league regular-season title. The 2005-06 season marked the program's 14th SLC regular-season title and its 18th trip to the NCAA Championships.
Junior guard Nikki Carr enters the year as a 2006 preseason second-team All-SLC selection. Carr finished fourth on the team averaging 7.9 points per game last year. She also led the team averaging more than three assists per game. Carr wrapped up her sophomore season earning honorable mention All-SLC honors.
The Ladyjacks will open the regular-season Friday evening against Tulane. The game against the Green Wave is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Fogelman Arena in New Orleans, La.
