The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks will look to remain one of the hottest teams in the league and stay a top the Southland Conference standings, when they face Texas-San Antonio Saturday afternoon. The Ladyjacks are currently 11-5 (.688) overall and tied with defending conference co-champion Texas-Arlington with a perfect 5-0 league record. UTSA enters the game 8-7 (.533) overall and tied for third in the league with a 3-1 (.750) SLC mark. The game is slated to begin at 2 p.m., in the Convocation Center.
The Coaches: Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack head coach Lee Ann Riley is 71-59 (.546) in her fifth season with SFA. She is 202-117 (.633) in her 11th season as a head coach. Texas-San Antonio head coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair is 89-69 (.563) in her sixth season with the Roadrunners. She is 196-113 (.634) in 11 seasons as a head coach.
SFA vs. the Roadrunners: The Ladyjacks have dominated the all-time series against Texas-San Antonio, owning a 27-3 (.900) all-time record against the Roadrunners. The two schools have split the last four meetings on the court, with the Roadrunners winning the only meeting between the two schools last season (a 56-44 decision in San Antonio).
The Defense Doesn't Rest: The Ladyjacks offense has been impressive all season, but it may have been outdone by its defensive performance Thursday night. The Ladyjacks held the league second best scoring team to only 49 points on 14-of-55 (.255) shooting, which is the third time this season that the Ladyjacks have an opponent below 50. SFA also held the league's top three-point shooting team in check as well, allowing the Bobcats only three makes in 16 attempts (.188) from beyond the arc. It is the first time the Ladyjacks have held an opponent below 30 percent from the field since McNeese State was only able to muster an 18-for-66 (.273) performance against SFA on Feb. 3 of last season.
Speed Limit 80: The Ladyjacks scored 82 points Thursday night in their 82-49 victory over Texas State. It marked the fifth time in the last six games, and the ninth time this season, the Ladyjacks have scored at least 80 points in a game. SFA is a perfect 9-0 in games where they have scored at least 80 points.
Great Brit: Senior Britany Vinson came off the bench to lead the Ladyjacks in scoring Thursday night. Vinson finished with a game-high 18 points on 6-of-8 (.750) shooting. She was also 4-of-6 (.667) from beyond the three-point line. Vinson grabbed five rebounds and dished out two assists to go along with her 18 points in 19 minutes of action.
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks return to action Thursday when they travel to Arlington, Texas to face the defending conference co-champion Texas-Arlington Lady Mavs. The game is scheduled to tip off Thursday at 7 p.m., at Texas Hall.
