NACOGDOCHES - Fresh off its victory in the Air Force Classic championship game over tournament-host Air Force, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will look to continue its modest two-game win streak Tuesday night as it hosts Arkansas-Little Rock. The game against the Trojans is slated to begin at 7 p.m., at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA vs. the Trojans Tuesday night's game between SFA and Arkansas-Little Rock represents the first meeting between the two schools on the hardwood.
Home Sweet Home The Ladyjacks are one of the nation's all-time winningest teams at home, with a 332-85 (.796) all-time record. The Ladyjacks have won 68 of their last 82 games at home and are a perfect 1-0 at home this season.
Reaching a Milestone Senior LaToya Mills became the 22nd Ladyjack to record 1,000 points in a career. She scored 23 points versus Air Force, but she reached the milestone with her 11th point of the game.
Air Force Classic MVP Senior Britany Vinson came off the bench to average 18.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals in the Ladyjacks two games at the Air Force Classic. Vinson finished the game 12-of-21 (.571) from the floor, including a 9-of-15 (.600) performance behind the three-point line. Vinson was named tournament MVP for leading the Ladyjacks to the tournament title.
All-Tournament Team Senior LaToya Mills joined classmate Britany Vinson on the Air Force Classic all-tournament team. After being held to a season-low 11 points and three rebounds against High Point, Mills rebounded the following night to lead SFA with a game-high 23 points and nine rebounds. Mills finished the weekend averaging 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. Mills was 14-of-19 (.737) from the floor and 6-of-7 (.857) from the free throw line in the two games.
Clipping the Falcons' Wings The Ladyjacks victory over the Air Force Academy was the first non-conference road win for SFA since a 69-63 decision over New Mexico State in 1997.
Milestone SFA head coach Lee Ann Riley is only six wins shy of career victory No. 200. Riley currently stands at 194 all-time wins in her 11 seasons as a head coach.
The Defense Doesn't Rest The Ladyjacks really stepped up the defensive effort against the Air Force Academy. The Falcons entered their game against SFA shooting close to 50 percent from the floor and 40 percent from beyond the arc. SFA held USAFA to an 18-of-58 (31 percent) performance from the field, allowing only 5-of-15 (33 percent) three-point field goals.
Arc Angels Senior guards Kirby Killingsworth and Britany Vinson are among the school's all-time top 10 in three-point field goals. Killingsworth is currently fourth all-time at SFA with 127 career three-pointers. Vinson is currently fifth in the SFA record books with 108 triples.
The Great Wall of Nacogdoches Junior Kendria Smith continues to move up the Ladyjacks' record books for career blocks. Smith is currently sixth all-time at SFA with 98 career blocks.
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks will be in Austin, Texas Thursday night to face Texas. The game against the Longhorns is slated to tip off at 7 p.m.
