NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will look to get back to its winning ways as it hosts Alcorn State Monday night in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks are coming off a disappointing 71-65 setback to North Texas Friday night that saw them record 24 turnovers and be whistled for 30 fouls. The game against the Lady Braves is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
SFA vs. the Lady Braves: The Ladyjacks are 5-1 (.833) all-time against Alcorn State. Monday night's game will be the first meeting between the two teams since the 2000-01 season when SFA thumped the Lady Braves, 88-46. The Ladyjacks have won the last five meetings in the series, with the lone loss coming during the 1983-84 season.
Home Sweet Home: The Ladyjacks are one of the nation's all-time winningest teams at home, with a 331-85 (.795) all-time record. The Ladyjacks have won 65 of their last 81 games at home and were 8-4 (.667) in the coliseum last year.
Homer Openers: The Ladyjacks are 8-4 (.667) in home openers dating back to the 1993-94 season, but have dropped their last three home-opening dates. The Ladyjacks opened the 2000-01 season against Alcorn State, recording an 88-46 victory over the Lady Braves that season.
Picking Up Where She Left Off: Senior LaToya Mills seems to have picked up right where she left off last season prior to her year-ending injury. In the Ladyjacks' season opener against North Texas, Mills led the Ladyjacks scoring 19 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. It marks the 20th double-double of Mills' career.
Up Next ... The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will continue the 2005-06 season Friday when the team heads to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the Lady Rebel Shootout. SFA will take on tournament-host UNLV Friday at 6:30. The Ladyjacks will return to action less than 24 hours later to face either Chattanooga or Tennessee Tech on Saturday. The second game of the tournament will tip off at 2:30 p.m.
