
McMichael Joins Softball Staff

NACOGDOCHES, Texas-- Former Mississippi State All-America center fielder Iyhia McMichael, a native of Nacogdoches, has returned home to join the softball coaching staff at Stephen F. Austin. McMichael will serve as the second assistant on the SFA staff of Jennifer Poulsen for the 2004-05 season. McMichael, a three sport star at Nacogdoches High School before graduating in 2000, recently completed her collegiate playing career at Mississippi State where she earned All-America honors and was a two-time Southeastern Conference Softball Athlete of the Year. She spent the past summer playing the National Pro Fastpitch League for the Akron Racers and was named the league's Player of the Year and won the league's batting crown. During the NPF regular season, McMichael posted a batting average of .349, and on-base percentage of .443 and a slugging percentage of .430. The number one pick in the 2004 NPF Senior Draft tied for third in the league with four homeruns and was seventh in the league with 17 runs batted in. As a prep star at NHS, McMichael helped the Lady Dragon softball team to a 12-5A district title and a bi-district title and was also a two-time female most valuable athlete at the high school. She will assist in all phases of the game at SFA.
