Ladyjack Basketball Set to Open 2004-05

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will open the 2004-05 season in two exhibition games. SFA will host Everyone's Internet Thursday at 7 p.m., in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Everyone's Internet is a team consisting of former collegiate standouts. The Ladyjacks will be back in action for their final exhibition game Tuesday Nov. 9, when they host Athletes in Action at 7 p.m., in the coliseum.
The Veterans The Ladyjacks return a wealth of talent as 11 letterwinners return from last year's squad, including all five starters. The returners consist of seniors Alex Bowman, Zedralyn Butler, Jaliyla Muhammad and Stacey Szymanski. The junior class consists of Kirby Killingsworth, LaToya Mills, Kendria Smith and Britany Vinson. The sophomores are Kim Branch, Nikki Carr, Evelyn Edwards and Jennifer Simpson.
The Newcomers The Ladyjacks have added three newcomers to the 2004-05 roster in transfers Natalie Kizzee (6-1, Jr., Post), Charity Egenti (6-3, Jr., Post) and freshman Shanae Green (5-4, PG). Egenti, a transfer from Memphis, will sit out the 2004-05 season to fulfill NCAA Division I transfer rules.
All-Southland Conference The Ladyjacks return one of the conference's most formidable one-two punches in the low post in juniors LaToya Mills and Kendria Smith. Mills led the team and was among the league leaders in points (12.2 points per game) and rebounds (8.1 rebounds per game). Mills finished off the season earning second-team All-SLC honors. Smith was a third-team all-conference selection after finishing second on the team in scoring (11.6 ppg) and rebounding (5.6 rpg). Smith was also second in the conference in blocks averaging 2.8 blocks per game.
A Look Back The Ladyjacks faced the nation's fourth-toughest schedule last season, facing a total of seven teams that advanced to either the NCAA Championships or the Women's NIT. The Ladyjacks finished the 2003-04 season with a 9-19 (.321) overall mark but closed out the season playing some of their best basketball winning seven of their final 10 regular-season games.
