NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball program signed Jamie Ansley (Hooker, Okla.) to a National Letter of Intent announced SFA head basketball coach Lee Ann Riley Monday afternoon. Ansley signing brings the 2004 signing class to three.
"Jamie is a tough, physical player who plays the game one way and that is to win," said SFA head coach Lee Ann Riley. "She can beat you inside, or she can beat you outside. Jamie is the type of player you want on your team because she makes everyone around her better. She is also a great student, ranked second in her class."
Ansley comes to Nacogdoches after a highly-decorated career at Hooker High School where she averaged 20.2 points and 10.3 rebounds for head coach Ray Kennedy. Ansley was a three-time Daily Oklahoman All-State selection, who received All-America consideration from McDonald's and Street & Smith's.
"Not only is Jamie the best player that I have ever coached," said Kennedy. "She is also one of the most coachable players that I have ever had. She averaged 17 points and 17 rebounds in the state tournament as a freshman, and she has only continued to get better every season."
"I am very excited to step up and play at the next level," said Ansley. "I think SFA is a great fit for me and a place where I will prosper. I hope to bring some of my qualities to SFA next year."
The Ladyjacks will tip-off the 2004-05 season Friday when they host Rice. The game against the Owls is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
