SFA Takes Two From Texas Southern

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin softball team (21-18, 8-7) swept both ends of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday evening over Texas Southern, 8-0 and 9-1. The wins move SFA to 9-2 at home for the year.
Nicole Carter (5-4) went the distance in shutting out the Tigers in game one, allowing only two hits while striking out four and walking two batters. The 'Jacks backed her up at the plate with eight runs on 12 hits off TSU's Jennifer Chandler.
Jaime Brown led the way for the 'Jacks, going 2-3 at the plate with three RBIs and a run scored. Crista Hargrove also went 2-3 with a triple. Devin Cobb also added two hits in two at-bats and drove in two runs while scoring one. She hit her first home run of the season in the second inning.
The 'Jacks struck early against the Tigers hanging up a five run second inning to take a 5-0 lead. Hargrove's triple started things off in the inning as the 'Jacks sent 10 batters to the plate.
Game two was more of the same as the 'Jacks jumped out early scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. Devin Cobb (7-2) worked six innings in picking up the win, giving up one run on six hits.
Brown continued her hot streak at the plate with three more hits in four at-bats in the nightcap. Brown also scored three runs and added an RBI. Hargrove also went 4-4 in game two with three RBIs and two runs scored.
SFA returns to Southland Conference action this weekend as the 'Jacks host McNeese State in a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.
