SFA Takes Series Finale, 4-1 Over SLU

HAMMOND, Louisiana -- The Stephen F. Austin softball team (19-18, 8-7) took the third game of a three game Southland Conference series with the Lions of Southeastern Louisiana (10-18, 5-7) Sunday afternoon by a score of 4-1. The 'Jacks won two out of three games with the Lions, winning a conference road series for the first time in two years.
SFA won game one of the series, 4-1 Saturday afternoon, then dropped game two by a 6-0 final.
Devin Cobb (6-2) got the win Sunday for SFA, combining with Crissy Autry to hold SLU to only one run on three hits. Cobb worked 5.1 innings, giving up one earned run on three hits. Autry worked 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out two Lion hitters.
After being held to only two hits in the middle game of the series, the 'Jacks got thew offense rolling Sunday baning out nine hits. Shreveport, Louisiana junior infielder Brooke Chandler was the only hitter in the lineup with more than one hit, as she went two for four on the afternoon. Crissy Autry and Meryl McGuire had one hit each, with each picking up doubles. Devin Cobb also helped herself at the plate with a one for three afternoon, driving in a pair of runs and scoring a run in a three run fourth inning for the 'Jacks. SFA picked up an insurance run in the top of the fourth inning to make the score 4-0.
The Lions' Natalie Dunagan shutout the 'Jacks on two hits Saturday afternoon in game two, but SFA touched her for three runs on six hits in only three innings of work Sunday afternoon.
SLU managed to push a run across the in the bottom of the sixth inning to avoid the shutout.
The 'Jacks host Texas Southern in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon starting at 4:00 p.m.
