NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team looks end to its longest SLC losing streak since the 1998-99 season when it faces Nicholls State Thursday night. The game against the Lady Colonels is slated to begin at 8:15 p.m. SFA will follow that up with the rematch against Southeastern Louisiana Saturday at 6:15 p.m. Both games will be played at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA vs. the Lady Colonels: The Ladyjacks own a 28-1 (.966) all-time record in the series against Nicholls State. The Ladyjacks have won the last 28 meetings between the two teams, including a 56-53 victory in Thibodaux earlier this season. The lone Lady Colonel victory in the series came during the first meeting between the two teams when NSU picked up a 53-51 decision in 1984-85.
SFA vs. the Lady Lions: The Ladyjacks are a perfect 15-0 all-time against Southeastern Louisiana. SFA is 1-0 against the Lady Lions this year after recording a 73-54 victory in Hammond, La., back in January.
Home Court Security: The Ladyjacks are one of the all-time winningest teams at home, with an all-time record of 313-72 (.813), including a perfect 13-0 record last season. The Ladyjacks have now won 47 of their last 50 games in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The last time SFA lost a home game in the Southland Conference was an 88-77 setback to Sam Houston State during the 1998-99 season. The Ladyjacks are 5-1 (.833) this season at home.
Tradition of Winning: The SFA Ladyjack basketball program has been one of the most dominant in women's basketball history. The Ladyjacks are among the nation's all-time top 10 with 722 wins. The Ladyjacks are also among the all-time top 10 with a .751 winning percentage (722-239).
Tradition of Winning in the SLC: As dominant as SFA has been nationally, they have been just as dominant in the Southland Conference. The Ladyjacks are the conference's most dominant team, compiling a 242-24 (.910) all-time record. SFA has won 14 of a possible 15 SLC tournament titles and 13 regular-season titles. SFA has also recorded four undefeated seasons in league play and has had 33 players named All-SLC.
Blocking the Record: Senior Amy Collins recorded five blocks against Texas-Arlington which gave her 57 for the season. The 57 blocks set a new SFA single-season record previously held by Vanessa Anderson (56 in 1984-85). Collins currently has 61 blocks.
Academic Shoot-out: The Ladyjacks will be competing in their annual Academic Shootout on Saturday Feb. 15th, when they host Southeastern Louisiana. A pledge table will be located at the entrance of the coliseum prior to every home game. Ladyjack fans can pledge money for every point made against the Lady Lions. The money helps raise summer school scholarships for the Ladyjacks.
Looking Ahead ... The Ladyjacks will be on the road Thursday Feb. 20th, as they travel to Beaumont, Texas, to take on Lamar. The game against the Cardinals is slated to get underway at 4 p.m., from the Montagne Center. SFA will return to action two days later when they travel to Huntsville, Texas, to take on Sam Houston State. The game is slated to begin 4 p.m., from the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
