
Ladyjacks Open 2003-04 with Two Exhibitions

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will open up the 2003-04 season with a couple of exhibitions games. SFA will host the National Women's Basketball Elite Northeast team Thursday at 7 p.m., in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. SFA will return to action Friday Nov. 14th when they host the Perik Jumpers from Holland. The game against Perik is set tipoff at 7 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
A Look at the Ladyjacks... The 2003-04 Ladyjack roster consists of 14 players and nine newcomers. The veterans are sophomores Kim Branch, Kirby Killingsworth, LaToya Mills, Kendria Smith and Britany Vinson. The newcomers are junior college transfers Alex Bowman, Zedralyn Butler, Jaliyla Muhammad, Tiffany Perkins and Stacey Szymanski. The rookies include three true-freshman and one redshirt freshman. The redshirt freshman is Melissa France. The three true freshmen are Nikki Carr, Evelyn Edwards and Jennifer Simpson. The Ladyjacks also added Krissy Riggs as a new assistant coach.
A Look at the Polls: The Ladyjacks have been picked to finish third in the Southland Conference in a poll of the league head coaches and sports information directors. SFA was picked to finish behind 2002-03 league-tournament champion Texas State and Texas-San Antonio.
Preseason All-Southland Conference: Sophomores Kirby Killingsworth and LaToya Mills were named to the 2003-04 Preseason All-Southland Conference second team. Mills led the team in rebounding and was second in scoring as a freshman and was named the 2003 SLC Freshman of the Year. Killingsworth led the Ladyjacks in scoring during her rookie season and recorded the third-best season in Ladyjack history with 50 three-pointers.
