Twenty-one players with the SFA softball program reported for practice January 5, and continue to work in preparation for the Feb. 1 season opener with Texas Southern, in Houston.
The team began the spring semester with a team building workshop at the Piney Woods Conservation Center on Lake Sam Rayburn. The university owns the center which features a ropes course and several team building exercises as part of a day long program designed to increase teamwork and cooperation.
On-field practices began Wednesday and continue daily at the Coy Sims Softball complex in Nacogdoches. Second year head coach Jennifer Poulsen says that so far, practices are going well. "We've had really good practices the first week. Everyone looks refreshed and energetic and excited about the start of the 2003 season," said Poulsen.
The team will hold an alumni game on January 25 at the complex and is still in search of any former SFA softball players that would like to participate. Any former players wishing to play may contact the softball office at (936) 468-4011.
SFA opens the home portion of its schedule March 1, when it hosts UL-Monroe in a Southland Conference doubleheader.
