Ladyjacks Hammer Nicholls State Junior Nathesia Wright leads the way with 23 points
NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team pounded Nicholls State, 89-39, Monday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks are now 15-5 overall and 12-1 in the Southland Conference.
SFA jumped out to a 10-0 lead to start the game and used its stellar defense to keep the Lady Colonels at bay. The Ladyjacks forced NSU into 34 turnovers as the Ladyjacks increased their lead to as many as 30 points in the first half. The Ladyjacks' defense was so tough that it held Nicholls State scoreless for an 11-minute and 3-second stretch of the first half. SFA cruised to a 39-9 advantage at the intermission.
It was more of the same in the second half as the Ladyjacks went on a 25-4 run to start the half. Junior Nathesia Wright (Arlington, Texas) set the tone for SFA scoring a game-high 23 points. Wright was one of four Ladyjacks to score in double figures during the game as sisters Jessica and Nicole Guild (Flower Mound, Texas) and freshman Andrea Everline (Sugarland, Texas) each scored 14 points. Senior Latisha Prater (Cottonport, La.) added six points, 10 assists and nine rebounds.
The Lady Colonels were led by Jennifer Posey's 14 points. Teammate Mandy Broussard added seven points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Ladyjacks return to action Thursday night in a doubleheader with the SFA men's basketball team. The Ladyjacks will take on McNeese State at 8:15 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Lumberjacks will kick-off the evening with a 6 p.m., game against Texas-Arlington. Fans that arrive at the gate 30 minutes prior to the Lumberjacks game will receive free admission to the game.
