NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will head to Norman, Okla., and Fort Collins, Colo., in search of its first victory of the season. The Ladyjacks will be in Norman, Okla., Thursday Dec. 5, to take on the Sooners. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from the Lloyd Noble Center. SFA will be in Fort Collins, Colo., on Sunday Dec. 8th, to take on Colorado State. The game against the Rams is slated to tipoff at 2 p.m., from Moby Arena.
SFA vs. the Sooners: The Ladyjacks are 4-2 (.667) all-time against Oklahoma, but the Ladyjacks have lost the previous two meetings. The last time the two teams met, the Sooners walked away with a 61-47 victory during the 1999-2000 season.
SFA vs. the Rams: The Ladyjacks are 1-0 all-time against Colorado State. The lone meeting between the two schools came during the 1986-87 season with SFA opened up the year with a 71-48 victory over the Rams.
Veteran Leadership: Senior Amy Collins took her game to another level halfway through the 2001-02 season. Over the last 15 games last season she averaged 11.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game, culminating in Collins being named 2002 SLC Tournament MVP. Nothing has changed this season. In her first three games this season, Collins has continued that pace, averaging 11.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game.
All-Tournament: Senior Amy Collins was named to the Hampton Inn Six Flags/UTSA Classic all-tournament team. She led the Ladyjacks with 23 points, 16 rebounds and seven blocks in the two games. Collins also added two steals. Collins is currently third on the team with 11.3 points per game, second on the team with 7.0 rebounds per game and leads the squad with 3.0 blocks per game.
Assault on the Millennium Club: Senior Nathesia Wright has scored 24 points in her last two games and stands on the threshold of the Ladyjacks' 1,000-point club. She currently has 992 career points and needs only 8 more points to become the 21st Ladyjack to record 1,000 career points. The last Ladyjack to join the club was Anitra Davis, who scored 1,751 points from 1995-99.
Looking Ahead ... The Ladyjacks close out their season-opening six-game road swing Monday, Dec. 16th, against No. 14 (ESPN/USA Today Women's Top 25 poll) Louisiana Tech. The is slated to get underway at 7 p.m., from the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston, La.
