NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will hit the road again looking for its first victory of the season. The Ladyjacks conclude their six-game season-opening road swing in Ruston, La., Monday when they take on Louisiana Tech. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from the Thomas Assembly Center. SFA will open the 2002-03 home portion of its schedule Friday Dec. 20 against Auburn. The Ladyjacks are slated for a 7 p.m., tipoff against the Tigers in the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA vs. the Lady Techsters: The Ladyjacks trail the all-time series against Louisiana Tech, 6-20 (.231). The Ladyjacks have won two of the last three meetings against the Lady Techsters. The last time the two teams met, Louisiana Tech defeated SFA, 85-53, during the 1997-98 season.
SFA vs. the Tigers: The Ladyjacks trail the all-time series against Auburn, 1-0. The only time the two teams met on the court was the 1983-84 season when Auburn earned 85-61 victory.
Career Milestone: Senior Nathesia Wright reached a career milestone last Thursday night against Oklahoma. Wright scored her 1,000th career point with her third three-pointer of the game. Wright is the 21st Ladyjack to reach the mark. She currently has 1,007 career points.
Block & Roll: Senior Amy Collins set a school record with her seven blocks against Oklahoma. The seven blocks broke the old school record of six, which Collins set twice in consecutive games last season (Mar. 5th and 7th). Collins is currently leading the Southland Conference with 3.60 blocks per game.
Nacogdoches Block Party: Senior Amy Collins has become one of the school's all-time top shot blockers. She has recorded 18 blocks this season and leads the Southland Conference at 3.60 blocks per game. She is currently the school's all-time record-holder for blocks in a single game (7). She is also only the fifth Ladyjack to record 100 blocks for a career. She is currently fifth all-time at SFA with 102 career blocks.
Need Assist-ance: Freshman Britany Vinson set a career-high with her eight assists against Colorado State. The eight assists are the most by a Ladyjack since Jessica Guild recorded nine against Texas-Arlington last season. Vinson leads the team and is currently third in the Southland Conference with her 4.40 assists per game.
Dishing It Out: The Ladyjacks recorded a season-high 23 team assists against Colorado State. SFA was led by freshman Britany Vinson's eight assists and senior Nathesia Wright's six assists. The 23 assists are the most by a Ladyjack team since SFA dished out 26 assists against Louisiana-Monroe last season.
Looking Ahead ... The Ladyjacks basketball team will tipoff the 2002-03 conference schedule in Monroe, La., Saturday Dec. 28 against the Indians. The game is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m., from the Fant-Ewing Coliseum. SFA then returns home to face Southwest Texas on Monday Dec. 30th. The game against SWT is slated to tipoff at 6 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
