
Ladyjacks Fall To Wichita State, 75-55

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks fell to 0-2 on the season Friday evening following a 75-55 loss to Wichita State in the opening game of the UTSA/Hampton Inn Classic, in San Antonio.
Wichita State controlled things inside and used 27 SFA turnovers to hand the Ladyjacks the loss. The Shockers outrebounded SFA by a 44-38 margin, but among the 44 Wichita State boards were 21 offensive rebounds that were turned into 19 second chance points. SFA pulled down 10 offensive boards on the night, but managed only three points on second chance opportunities.
Nathesia Wright, a senior from Arlington, led all scorers in the game with 21 points. Wright was eight of 15 from the field on the night and also added five rebounds. LaToya Mills, a redshirt freshman from Houston Kempner also added 11 points and six boards on the night. San Antonio senior Amy Collins led the Ladyacks on the boards with 10 rebounds, she also added six points. The 6-3 post player also chalked up four blocked shots on the night.
Jamie Boles, a freshman from Keller, played 20 minutes in the game and ended the night with eight points and seven rebounds.
Brittany Vinson, a freshman guard from Prattville, Ala. was victimized by the Wichita State pressure as she was forced into eight turnovers against only one assist. She also added two rebounds for SFA.
The story of the night were the turnovers as SFA turned the ball over 27 times allowing Wichita State to break open a close game late in the first half. The Shockers outscored SFA 15-4 over the final four minutes of the first half to open up an 11-point halftime lead, at 34-23.
WSU outscored the Ladyjacks 23-8 on points of turnovers.
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday afternoon with a 2:00 p.m. tip, against the University of Alabama.
