NACOGDOCHES - After picking up victories in its two exhibition basketball games, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team now focuses its attention on the regular season. SFA opens the regular-season slate Saturday at Arkansas. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m., from Bud Walton Arena.
SFA vs. the Razorbacks: The Ladyjacks trail the all-time series to Arkansas, 4-3. The Ladyjacks have dropped four of the last five meetings between to two teams. Ironically enough, the last time SFA defeated Arkansas, current Lady Razorback head coach Gary Blair led the Ladyjacks to an 83-57 victory. It will be the first time the two teams have played since the 1996-97 season when Arkansas picked up an 85-76 victory.
Season-Openers: The Ladyjacks are 22-8 (.733) all-time in season openers. SFA has won five of its last six season-openers but dropped a 74-57 decision at Florida International to open the 2001-02 season.
Looking Ahead... The Ladyjacks continue their six-game road swing to kick off the 2002-03 season when they travel to San Antonio, Texas, to compete in the UTSA Tournament. The Ladyjacks will open the tournament Friday Nov. 29 against Wichita State. The game against the Shockers is slated to get underway at 5 p.m. The Ladyjacks will return to action the following day to take on Alabama. The game against the Crimson Tide is slated to begin at 4 p.m. Both games will be played at the Convocation Center.
