NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack and Ladyjack basketball teams will kickoff the 2002-03 season Friday night at the fifth annual Midnight Mardi Gras.
The event is scheduled to get underway Friday at 11 p.m., in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The High Impact Squad will showcase their high-flying, acrobatic dunking routines. Students will have the opportunity to compete for $15,000 in cash and free tuition for a semester. There will also be other free giveaways throughout the night.
The highlight of the evening will be at midnight when the 2002-03 SFA men and women's basketball teams take the floor to kickoff the upcoming season. The Ladyjacks won their 13th Southland Conference title last season, while the Lumberjacks advanced to the SLC Championships for the first time in since the 1995-96 season.
Admission to Midnight Mardi Gras is free.
