Ladyjacks Defeat Nicholls State Senior Jennifer Wilson leads the way with 22 kills and no errors
NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team moved a half game in front of Nicholls State for fifth place in the Southland Conference with their 3-1 (30-22, 30-23, 24-30, 30-17) victory. The Ladyjacks are now 11-8 overall and 5-3 in the SLC.
The Ladyjacks jumped out to an 8-1 lead in game one behind senior Jennifer Wilson's (Friendswood, Texas) six kills. She finished the game with a .750 attack percentage. She also added four block assists in the game. Nicholls State closed the gap to two points before SFA put them away, 30-22.
It was more of the same from Wilson in the second game as she added five more kills. Wilson finished with a match-high 22 kills and no attack errors. She also recorded a .629 attack percentage and six block assists. Senior Angie Wood (Houston, Texas) added 17 kills and four service aces.
The Colonels battled their way to a 30-24 victory in game three behind Kui Fletcher's 20 kills and nine digs. But it wasn't enough as SFA cruised to a 30-17 victory in game four, for the victory.
"We played a good match tonight," said SFA head coach Debbie Humphreys. "We had a moment where we let them do their thing and Nicholls State got the momentum in game three. We dug ourselves a pretty big hole in that game but we got back on track in the last game. We didn't have has many ups and downs in this match as we have had in the past. Overall I thought we played a good match."
The Ladyjacks return to the court Saturday afternoon to face Southeastern Louisiana. The match against the Lady Lions is slated to begin at 4 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Admission is free to students
